Merry Holidays to you, John & to the RSS! I sang (2nd) alto with you in 1993-4 and will always have fondest memories thereof. Still flying for Delta--mostly to Germany instead of Moscow--and finishing up a PhD (Linguistics, not Early Music!) at U of Georgia...you know I miss the city and those great rehearsals/concerts:) Hard to find a group like yours down here. Glad I found y'all in Cyberspace! (oops, have I become SOUTHERNIZED?) Best wishes and hope to catch a concert in 2001... Michele

Great to see everyone recently when I was in New York. News from London is that my choir (the Elysian Singers) has reached the final of the Sainsbury's Choir of the Year in the Royal Albert Hall on 3 December - so if you are over in London, come and support us! Our website address is http://www.elysiansingers.freeserve.co.uk/ if you want to visit us.

Hello, John!! I was net surfing and you were next in my "why don't I" list after Lost in Space, the TV show. (Damn, that TV Guide article on Jonathan Harris was "not available on this server.") It's hard for me to make it up to NY to see ya but -- Hurray for John Hetland and the RSS! Thanks for doing the kind of thing most of us only dream about. Hello from a bustling music camp--Amherst Early Music has been quite fascinating. We all regret that there isn't time to take all the courses offered, because there are so many interesting and challenging ones. I wish I had opted for more singing, but a busy beginning to learn the elements of baroque dance, which is both sublime and ridiculous. Quite few pickup groups in which to play harp and recorder, and wonderful concerts of everything from medieval ballads to Bach cantatas, including works for co netto muto, theorbo, and sackbut (sort of a Mine's longer--yes but mine's louder contest). You can rent a viol in NYC! It's a temptation to start something else again, rather than improve what you know...Nancy, I greeted Grant and Tom on your behalf; they devised a nifty production of a masque by Ben Jonson, featuring singers, dancers, and a big band, who managed to learn the whole thing and put it together in 5 days. I probably won't make it on Sunday, but trust I'll see you thereafter.

Yeah, cool it would be. I once tried to put some news stories in, but in order for the type to be legible at all they had to be huge, and I didn't find the result satisfying. Maybe I'll try again...

As I was leaving after the concert
There was a dazzle by the door:
A gentle dazzle, golden, glowing.
. It wasn't like the Glory of the Lord
. That shone about the shepherds
. And made them sore afraid;
. It was like firelight in a dark wood,
. A promise of comfort and welcome.
. I stopped.
A ring of singers was standing in the light,
Their soft, caressing voices following the music
With clarity and precision,
Without self-consciousness.
. I stood another moment,
. Enchanted, listening,
. And when at last I turned to leave
. I was sure that the dazzle was coming
. From them.

Hello, The music given to the streets of New York rises up..... higher than trash cans a- booming, trucks-a roaring, busses- a- braking, autos-a screeching, and sirens-a-wailing. All that rises to the loftiest heights, enjoyed by angels and spirits as they look down upon the crowded island, is the beautiful music sung by the Renaissance Street Singers....only music which people do not pay money to hear can rise so high, and the group enchants those up there looking down. The humble director tenderly keeps time, and the singers effort with sincerity....by the time the music reaches the final height, the molecules in the atmosphere have rearranged any note even a degree off-key, and the highest listeners say to one another "Listen...it's heavenly down there!"

I took a look at the site today, and the April 18 photos didn't show. Neither did the "discussion with a cop" shot, although the little picture icon wasn't "broken," the way it is when a picture's been destroyed. Censorship at geocities? ;) If we do 18 April again, we ought to look for a piece about St. George--are there any? See you at the Station.

I wanted the entries in this guestbook to stay permanently, but now I see it has been unceremoniously chopped at around May 7, 1999. Since the Guestbook is maintained by my sponsor with mysterious processes over which I have no control, from now on I'll back it up from time to time so I can more easily repair its seemingly inevitable corruption.

I'll keep checking your website for a concert near me. Also, if anyone is interested in street caroling on the night of the North Plainfield Washington Park Historic District Candlelight Holiday House Tour (quite a mouthful, isn't it?), let me know. I'm sure that the District Commission would absolutely flip over the idea! If anyone is interested, I will ave to find out the exact date, and maybe we could work something out. Happy Singing! Ann

Caught your performance 5/23 at GCT. My family and I were in the main lobby when we heard this wonderful hymn-like music floating above us. We assumed that it was "piped in" and thought that it was great that the Terminal was so thoughtful. We were so surprised to see you on the ramp (although I saw the public TV piece on the group and was familiar with it). The music and the feeling it evoked was wonderful - Thank you very much!

Hello all--May Sunday be as beauteous as 2 weeks ago. There will surely be gangs of people around City Hall if they're still doing the gardens protest then--a good audience for the numbers about vineyards and the clausus hortus (Plore, flore virginale), or too noisy? By a tomato, as some scholars hazard, we were condemned... BTW, might it be possible to get rid of guestbook pages when they get old? Except for praise from celebrities, of course.
